Many researchers would argue that standardized tests of any kind are filled with cultural biases making the scores invalid and unfair for different ethnic or cultural groups. However, others argue that these tests are unbiased and present all students with the same opportunities. After reading the course materials develop a cohesive and research-based argument for or against either belief based on the position you have been assigned below:
For this discussion, we will jigsaw responses. This means that you will become an expert in one area and share your expertise with the rest of the class.
BIASES DO EXIST: If your birthday falls between January 1 and June 30, respond to the following (be sure to type “Biases Do Exist” at the top of your post). You must argue from your assigned position of “believe” that biases do exist in standardized tests:
What is one harmful effect that intelligence tests can have on students or clients?
What advice would you give educators or mental health counselors on the use of intelligence testing?
Based on what you read, would you agree or disagree with this argument and why?
